Arsenal delivered a sensational second-half performance to defeat Bayern Munich 3–1 at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday, preserving their perfect Champions League record and ending the Germans’ unbeaten run.
The clash between the top two teams in the 36-team Champions League format lived up to its billing, with both heavyweights entering the tie undefeated.
Arsenal struck first in the opening half when Jurrien Timber headed in from a Bukayo Saka corner. Bayern responded quickly, with teenage forward Lennart Karl finishing brilliantly to level the score before halftime.
The Gunners, however, took full control after the break. Noni Madueke restored Arsenal’s lead with his first-ever Champions League goal, finishing calmly after a flowing move.
Substitute Gabriel Martinelli sealed the victory with a remarkable solo effort. After Eberechi Eze broke Bayern’s press and released an early pass, Martinelli sprinted from his own half, rounded a stranded Manuel Neuer who was far off his line and rolled the ball into an empty net.
The win means Arsenal remain the only team with a 100% record in this season’s UEFA Champions League, having won all five of their matches so far.
Meanwhile, the night’s other results delivered plenty of talking points across Europe:
- Liverpool 1–4 PSV: A Perisic penalty following a Van Dijk handball opened the scoring; Szoboszlai equalised before Til restored PSV’s lead. Driouech struck twice to complete a dominant win at Anfield.
- PSG 5–3 Tottenham: Richarlison put Spurs ahead, but Vitinha inspired PSG with a superb equaliser and later completed a hat-trick. Kolo Muani also scored against his parent club as PSG took control.
- Real Madrid vs Olympiacos: Kylian Mbappé scored four as Madrid led 4–3 in a dramatic encounter.
- Elsewhere: Pafos drew 2–2 with Monaco after a Luiz strike, while Copenhagen edged Kairat 3–2 in an earlier fixture.
Arsenal’s victory not only strengthens their grip on top spot but also sends a message to the rest of Europe as they continue their flawless Champions League campaign.
