The Court of Appeal in Abuja has reaffirmed Barrister Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), following a judgment delivered on Friday by Justice Hamma Barka.
This ruling, based on a prior judgment from November 13, 2024, addressed two separate appeals:
- Appeal No. CA/ABJ/CV/1217/2024, filed by Senator Esther Nenadi Usman and others against the Labour Party and its representatives.
- Appeal No. CA/ABJ/CV/1232/2024, filed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against the Labour Party.
Justice Barka reiterated that the leadership of the Labour Party had already been resolved in the earlier judgment (Appeal No. CA/ABJ/CV/1172/2024) and could not be altered by the two appeals.
The judge noted that both appeals originated from an incompetent suit and clarified that the Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Emeka Nwite, lacked jurisdiction to rule on the Labour Party’s leadership.
He urged all parties and the public to respect the appellate court’s decision, which unequivocally affirmed Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party.
