APC Targets South South Domination in 2027, Says Akpabio

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has expressed confidence that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will win all six South South states in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during a meeting with Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo at his residence in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Akpabio described Okpebholo’s September 21 election victory as divinely ordained to bring relief to the people of Edo State.

Currently, the APC controls only Edo and Cross River States in the South South geopolitical zone, while the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) holds Akwa Ibom, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Delta States.

Akpabio, who defected to the APC from the PDP, revealed that his move was strategically aimed at positioning the South South at the national level.
“Under the APC administration, many of us felt the need to change the political basket to better represent our people and ensure our voices are heard in national affairs,” he said in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Communication, Mr. Anietie Ekong.

The Senate President expressed optimism about the party’s chances in 2027, stating, “With the current political permutations and all available indices, the ruling APC is poised to bring more states into its fold. Winning these states will significantly transform the developmental trajectory of the South South region.”

Governor Okpebholo, on his part, said he visited Akpabio to seek advice and learn from his leadership experience.
“Seeing the development in Akwa Ibom, I’ve come to learn from my leader, seek his advice, and draw from his wealth of experience,” Okpebholo said.
