APC Denies Involvement in Obasa’s Impeachment, Affirms Legislative Independence

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has distanced itself from the impeachment of the former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Mudashiru Obasa, emphasizing the independence of the legislative arm.

Hon. Obasa was removed from office on Monday by members of the House and replaced by Hon. Mojisola Lasbat Meranda as the new Speaker.

Speaking on the development, APC spokesman Hon. Seye Oladejo clarified that the party had no hand in the impeachment process, which he described as solely the prerogative of the House of Assembly.

“His impeachment is not a party affair; it’s entirely the business of the House of Assembly. They enjoy their independence as one of the three arms of government,” Oladejo explained.

He added that politics is often driven by interests, stating, “Politics is about intrigues and interests, and the only thing permanent is your interest at a particular time as a politician. That is universal and not peculiar to Nigeria.”

The APC reaffirmed its dedication to delivering good governance and fulfilling its campaign promises to the people of Lagos State.
