Jesutega Onokpasa, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has criticized President Bola Tinubu for appointing Daniel Bwala as Special Adviser on Policy Communication, describing the move as a “betrayal” of loyal supporters.
Bwala, a former spokesperson for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the 2023 presidential campaign, was a vocal critic of Tinubu. He had accused Tinubu of corruption and called for his prosecution, referencing allegations of drug-related funds forfeited in the United States.
Speaking on Arise TV’s News Night, Onokpasa expressed outrage at the appointment. “Our dear and beloved President stabbed all of us, his staunch supporters, in the back with this absolutely ridiculous, meaningless, and just inexplicable appointment,” he said.
Rejecting claims that the move was politically strategic, Onokpasa dismissed it as “stupidity.” He further lamented what he perceived as Tinubu’s disregard for his loyal base. “Not all his supporters want an appointment. It’s just the insult that our president seems to take us (his supporters) for granted,” he added.
The decision has sparked mixed reactions, with some political observers viewing it as an attempt to foster unity across party lines, while others believe it risks alienating Tinubu’s core supporters.
