Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo of Anambra State took action on Tuesday by sealing two prominent buildings located in Awka, the state capital.
The buildings affected by this operation include the former campaign office of Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate and former governor of Anambra, as well as the office of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) faction led by Edozie Njoku.
The operation occurred at the Udoka Housing Estate, carried out by government officials under the supervision of security personnel. The reasons behind the Soludo administration’s decision to seal these buildings remain unclear at this time.
Reacting to the development, Tony Uche Ezekwelu, the South-East National Vice Chairman of APGA, voiced his disappointment. He suggested that the action might be politically driven, considering the growing influence of APGA under Edozie Njoku’s leadership.
Ezekwelu pointed out that the office had only been operational for two months and was actively engaged in preparations for the upcoming local government elections. He criticized the government’s decision to seal the office without prior notice, emphasizing that the area has historically been used for political activities without any problems.
“This office previously served as the campaign headquarters for Peter Obi during his presidential bid, and other political figures have used the space without interference,” Ezekwelu stated. Despite the concerns raised by APGA, Governor Soludo, who is also a member of the party, reassured the public in a broadcast commemorating the creation of Anambra State that the internal crisis within APGA would be resolved soon.
