Anambra Govt Denies Second Airport Plans, Calls Reports ‘Falsehood’

The Anambra State Government has dismissed reports suggesting plans to construct a second airport as false and misleading, describing them as “distractions from anti-government individuals.”

The rumors claimed that Governor Charles Soludo had promised a new airport at Ndikelionwu in Orumba North Local Government Area. However, Commissioner for Information, Law Mefor, clarified that there are no such plans less than four years after the inauguration of Chinua Achebe International Cargo Airport in Umeri, Anambra East.

Mefor explained that speculation may have arisen following the governor’s recent visit to the Anambra Mixed-Use Industrial City (AMIC), with some assuming the industrial park would require its own airport. He stressed that the visit was for technical investigations to determine suitable locations for potential transport systems, including railways and airports, as part of the AMIC master plan.

“The final master plan integrates the 4,000-hectare AMIC, a pharmaceutical hub, and a new global-standard urban city with innovation centers, education and medical facilities, tourism, business districts, and housing clusters to drive industrialization and sustainable growth,” Mefor said.

He added that no decision has been made on whether a railway or airport will be built to service AMIC, and urged the public to disregard false reports while relying on official government communications.
