A federal jury in New York City has found real estate executives Oren, Alon, and Tal Alexander guilty on all counts in a high-profile sex-trafficking case.
The verdict came after five weeks of testimony and deliberations that began Thursday. Oren and Alon Alexander, 38-year-old twins, and their older brother Tal, 39, had pleaded not guilty and denied prosecutors’ claims that they sexually assaulted women and operated a sex-trafficking scheme.
During the trial, 11 women testified that they were sexually assaulted by one or more of the brothers. At least eight said they believed they had been drugged before the alleged attacks.
“These are chilling, reprehensible and unacceptable acts,” U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton said in a statement after the verdict. He praised the victims for their courage in coming forward and testifying, saying their testimony helped prevent further harm.
A spokesperson for the Alexander family called the outcome “deeply disappointing,” arguing that the evidence and the presentation of the case were flawed.
“The legal process does not end here,” spokesperson Juda S. Engelmayer said. “We will continue fighting every day until justice is done and the three brothers regain their freedom.”
Defense attorney Marc Agnifilo, who represented Oren Alexander, also signaled plans to challenge the verdict.
“There are a lot of avenues open to us,” Agnifilo said outside the courthouse. “We believe in our client’s innocence and we will continue to fight.”
Sentencing for the three brothers is scheduled for August 6.
