Akpabio Advocates for Strengthened Nigeria-Korea Cooperation

Senate President Godswill Akpabio has advocated for enhanced bilateral cooperation between Nigeria and the Republic of Korea, focusing on key areas such as climate change, security, agriculture, and poverty alleviation. Akpabio made this appeal on Tuesday while hosting Kim Pankyu, the Korean Ambassador to Nigeria, along with other officials from the Korean embassy at the National Assembly in Abuja.

He characterized the visit as a “major milestone” in strengthening the relationship between the two countries, noting that Nigeria’s crucial role in regional stability and its growing population calls for closer collaboration with Korea. Akpabio emphasized the need to learn from Korea’s expertise in tackling climate change and other significant global challenges. He also expressed interest in forming a Nigerian-Korean Parliamentary cooperation.

Ambassador Kim Pankyu acknowledged that economic exchanges have been fundamental to the enduring bilateral relations between Nigeria and Korea. He pointed out the potential for increased economic collaboration, particularly as the Korean government aims to strengthen ties with African nations, as demonstrated by the Korean-African summit held in June. The ambassador commended President Tinubu’s initiatives to enhance Nigeria’s business environment, suggesting that these efforts could attract more Korean investments and elevate bilateral trade.
