Aisha Yesufu Joins NDC, Eyes FCT Senate Seat

Activist and prominent supporter of Peter Obi, Aisha Yesufu, has announced her resignation from the African Democratic Congress and confirmed her move to the Nigeria Democratic Congress.

Yesufu disclosed the decision in a statement shared on her X account on Wednesday, describing the move as part of her commitment to supporting a political movement she believes can reshape Nigeria’s future.

“The next couple of days will define the future of this nation,” she wrote.

She explained that her support for Obi was the reason she initially joined the ADC and said her latest political decision was aimed at remaining faithful to that commitment.

“This deeper understanding is why I resigned from the African Democratic Congress to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress as I follow the leadership of His Excellency Peter Obi, who today embodies the hope and aspiration of a Nigeria that works,” she stated.

According to her, loyalty and consistency influenced her decision to switch parties.

“When I give my word, I keep it. My decision to support HE Peter Obi first led me to the ADC. To continue to honour the promise, I am joining the NDC,” she added.

Beyond her defection, Yesufu also announced plans to contest for the Federal Capital Territory senatorial seat under the NDC platform ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“This time, I am joining the NDC not just as a member but as one running for the FCT Senatorial seat,” she said.

The activist noted that she had formally concluded all responsibilities within the ADC before leaving the party and expressed appreciation for the opportunity to serve.

She revealed that she previously held several positions within the party, including sub-committee chair, deputy committee chair and secretary at different levels.

“I was fortunate to work with great and amazing people whose goal was a better country. I am grateful for the opportunity to have served,” she stated.
