Adeleke Orders Fast-Track of Electricity Market Law in Osun

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has directed the Ministry of Energy to prepare an implementation plan for the newly passed Electricity Market law, paving the way for the establishment of the Osun Electricity Regulatory Commission.

The governor gave the directive while presiding over the State Executive Council meeting in Osogbo on Friday night. Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, said Governor Adeleke instructed the ministry to seek support from the National Electricity Regulatory Commission to ensure smooth execution.

The Electricity Bill, approved by the State House of Assembly in July, empowers Osun to regulate electricity production, distribution, and licensing within the state. Private firms will also be able to obtain licenses to generate off-grid or mini-grid power, promoting investment and renewable energy options.

Governor Adeleke also reviewed key sectoral policies, issuing fresh directives to ministries and agencies. He commended the Ministry of Works for ongoing infrastructure projects, including the Ilesa dualization, Ile Ife flyover bridge, Oke Fia/Lameco flyover bridges, and Iwo dualization.

On technology, he urged the Ministry of Science and Innovations to fast-track the State ICT and Tech Innovation policies, develop roadmaps for AI and blockchain applications, and expand the recently unveiled Imole Wifi Initiative.

In agriculture, Adeleke called for full implementation of the Statewide Youth Agropreneurship project across all local governments. In sports, he emphasized prompt action on bills establishing the Osun Sports Commission, Police Trust Fund, and Osun Sports Development Fund.

Ahead of local government reforms, the governor stressed that each council should develop a local development agenda aligned with state plans. He also directed enhanced monitoring of Imole Youth Corps members and highlighted the state’s achievements in climate change initiatives, noting their appeal to federal and international partners and potential donor support.
