The Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC) has scheduled the local government elections for November 2, 2024. This was confirmed by the commission’s chairman, Professor George Chima, during a meeting with political stakeholders in Umuahia on Saturday.

Chima revealed that the elections will include chairmanship and councillorship positions across the state’s 184 wards. He assured stakeholders of the commission’s commitment to delivering a free, fair, and credible election process.

The timeline for political parties was also outlined, with primaries to be held from September 25 to October 4, and the submission of candidates’ lists scheduled between October 5 and 7. Campaigns are expected to run from October 18 to 31. Chima emphasized the commission’s determination to break from past practices and ensure that the 2024 elections will be conducted transparently and credibly.
