Oregon School Shooting: Three Children and Teacher Killed in Special Needs Classroom, Police Reveal

Authorities in Bend, Oregon, have released new details about Thursday’s deadly shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School, confirming that the attack occurred inside a special needs classroom and claimed the lives of three young boys and a teacher.

During a news conference Friday, police identified two of the victims as 25-year-old teacher Megan Lambert and 5-year-old Rhoam Summer.

The other two children killed were boys aged 8 and 11. Authorities said their names would not be released in accordance with their families’ wishes.

Bend Police Chief Mike Krantz said the suspected gunman, a 16-year-old teenager armed with a 12-gauge shotgun, entered the school before opening fire.

The attacker was subsequently shot and killed by a community member who witnessed him entering the building and pursued him inside, according to police.

Investigators also revealed that another teacher attempted to stop the violence by tackling the gunman to the ground and trying to wrestle the weapon away from him.

Chief Krantz described the teacher’s actions as heroic, suggesting that the intervention may have prevented additional casualties.

Two other people were wounded in the attack, including a 7-year-old girl and a 54-year-old teacher.

Both victims were initially transported to the hospital in critical condition.

By Friday, authorities said the young girl had improved to serious but stable condition.

The injured teacher, identified by her family as Becky Drury, sustained serious injuries that were no longer considered life-threatening.

The latest information provides a clearer picture of the violence that unfolded inside the elementary school, where students and educators were caught in the deadly attack.

Police have not disclosed a motive for the shooting or explained whether the teenage suspect had any connection to the school or its victims.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack.

The tragedy has left the Bend school community mourning the deaths of three children and a young educator, while the two surviving victims continue their recovery.

Authorities have also acknowledged the actions of those who intervened during the shooting, highlighting their efforts to protect students and staff from further harm.
