Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has expressed concern about his safety ahead of the 2027 general elections, saying he is uncertain whether he will be alive when the polls take place.

Obi made the statement during an interview on Arise TV on Thursday, where he said he had been petitioned and investigated in different places.

“As I speak to you, I have also been petitioned, I’ve been investigated everywhere. Like I said before, I’m not even sure whether I’ll still be alive at the end of this,” he said.

The former Anambra governor said he was relying on God for protection amid the uncertainty.

“I’m praying to God for His protection because at this stage, I’m not sure what is happening,” he added.

Obi also appealed to politicians and state governors to ensure a peaceful and democratic environment ahead of the elections, particularly by allowing presidential candidates and other aspirants to campaign freely.

He said governors were entitled to support candidates of their choice but should also allow other political actors to participate.

“Some of them will be campaigning for presidency tomorrow. They will be campaigning for other offices tomorrow. Let’s have peace,” Obi said.

He recalled his tenure as Anambra governor, saying he allowed politicians from other parties to campaign freely in the state, including those supporting candidates who opposed him.
