British Rapper Yung Filly to Face Retrial on Three Rape Charges in Australia

British rapper and social media personality Yung Filly will face a second trial in Australia on three rape charges after jurors failed to reach verdicts on those counts during his first trial.

The 30-year-old entertainer, whose real name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, was informed Friday that prosecutors intend to retry him over allegations involving a woman following a performance in Perth in September 2024.

Barrientos faced an eight-day trial last month in the District Court of Western Australia.

The jury convicted him on two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm against the woman, who was 20 at the time of the alleged incident. He was acquitted of a choking charge and four of the seven rape charges he faced.

However, jurors were unable to reach the required majority verdict of at least 10 of 12 members on the remaining three rape charges, prompting prosecutors to seek a retrial.

Prosecutor Danielle Clarke told Judge Linda Black that the woman, whose identity is legally protected, was prepared to testify again.

No date has yet been set for the retrial. Barrientos will be sentenced for the two assault convictions after the new trial is completed.

The Colombian-born entertainer has remained on bail since he was charged and was previously permitted to return to Britain for several months.

Barrientos did not speak to reporters as he left court Friday.

He had been touring Australia and had performed in Sydney and Melbourne before arriving in Perth. He was arrested several days after the alleged incident in Brisbane, where his Australian tour was scheduled to conclude.

Prosecutors alleged during the first trial that the woman initially consented to sex but later withdrew her consent because she feared for her safety.
