Trump Says Security Threat Forced Him Off Air Force One

President Donald Trump confirmed Tuesday that he was secretly moved to another aircraft following a trip to Turkey last month after security officials identified a threat against him.

Trump said the Secret Service and military instructed him to travel aboard a different aircraft instead of Air Force One because of security concerns.

“They wanted me to go on a different flight, different plane,” Trump told reporters after returning from an event in Ohio. “I guess there was a threat out there. I didn’t really ask too much about it. I get a lot of threats.”

The unusual security operation reportedly took place after Trump attended a NATO summit in Turkey.

According to reports, Trump was concealed inside an airport catering container and secretly transported to another aircraft. Air Force One then departed separately, effectively serving as a decoy.

The operation remained secret for several weeks before details were first reported by The Washington Post, which said the measures were taken in response to what authorities considered a credible threat from Iran.

Trump sought to downplay both the operation and the potential danger involved, including the risks faced by White House officials, security and support personnel, and journalists who remained aboard Air Force One.

The president suggested that the alternative aircraft he used may actually have faced greater danger.

“I think actually the plane that I flew on was at greater risk,” Trump said, without providing additional details.

He also insisted that the reported threat did not frighten him.

“I don’t worry about anything, to be honest,” Trump said. “Whatever it is. You know my attitude? Whatever!”

The episode highlights the extraordinary security measures surrounding presidential travel amid heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran.
