The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has inaugurated reconciliation committees as part of efforts to strengthen unity within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at the inauguration on Thursday, NDC National Chairman, Moses Cleopas, appointed Professor Pat Utomi as chairman of the committee, with Buba Galadima serving as co-chairman.

Cleopas urged members of the committee to carry out their responsibilities with fairness, impartiality, integrity and strict adherence to the party’s constitution.

He charged them to listen to grievances patiently, engage with stakeholders widely and pursue genuine reconciliation, while making bold recommendations where necessary.

According to him, the committee’s responsibility goes beyond resolving internal disputes to rebuilding confidence, restoring trust and strengthening unity within the party.

“Your assignment is not merely to settle disputes; it is to rebuild confidence, restore trust, strengthen unity, and reassure every member that the NDC remains one united family where justice, fairness, equity, and inclusion shall continue to prevail.”

The party chairman also assured aspirants who failed to secure nominations that their contributions and political value remained important to the party.

He said the emergence of candidates for various positions should not diminish the leadership capacity of other aspirants, describing them as valuable assets whose support would be required during the 2027 campaigns.

Cleopas called for an inclusive campaign in which every committed member would have a role, while urging stakeholders to ensure that genuine grievances received adequate attention.

“I therefore call upon all aspirants, party leaders, stakeholders, supporters, and members across the federation to cooperate fully with this committee,” he said.
