DHQ Pledges Action Over Abduction, Death of Gen. Rabe Abubakar

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has pledged to ensure that those responsible for the abduction of retired Maj.-Gen. Rabe Abubakar are identified and brought to justice, following his death while in captivity.

Maj.-Gen. Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, was abducted alongside his wife on May 30 along the Katsina–Matazu Road while travelling to his hometown. He later died while still in the custody of his abductors.

The commitment was made by the DHQ Chief Administration Officer, Maj.-Gen. I.M. Abdullahi, during a condolence visit by a military delegation to the Katsina State Government on Monday.

“We share in the grief of the people of Katsina and the family of the deceased. The Armed Forces will continue to work with relevant security agencies to ensure that those responsible are identified and brought to justice,” he said.

The delegation, which included senior military officers, was received by Katsina State Deputy Governor Faruk Lawal Jobe on behalf of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda. The state government reaffirmed its commitment to supporting security agencies in the fight against banditry and violent crime.

Maj.-Gen. Abubakar was later buried in Katsina according to Islamic rites after his remains were released by his abductors. The state government said he died in captivity due to complications linked to diabetes and hypertension.

His son, Isyaka Rabe-Abubakar, described him as a humble and devout man, noting that the family has accepted his passing as the will of God while urging continued efforts to secure the release of his abducted wife.

“We will not forgive those behind this act,” he said.

The incident has further intensified concerns over insecurity in the North-West, where kidnapping and banditry continue to persist despite ongoing military operations.
