A U.S. naval vessel attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz was forced to turn back after being struck by missiles, according to reports from Iran’s Fars news agency.
The outlet, citing local sources, said the warship ignored warnings issued by Iranian forces before the incident occurred near Jask Island. It claimed that two missiles hit the vessel as it continued its approach, prompting it to withdraw from the area.
The report has not been independently verified, but it comes amid heightened tensions in the region, where Iran has warned foreign military ships against entering the waterway without authorization.
The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical and highly contested maritime chokepoint, with ongoing military standoffs between Iran and the United States contributing to repeated confrontations.
