Iran Seizes Vessels After Gunfire Incident in Strait of Hormuz

Three container ships were struck by Iranian gunfire in the Strait of Hormuz on Wednesday, just hours after U.S. President Donald Trump announced an indefinite extension of the ceasefire with Iran.

Iranian state media reported that two of the vessels were subsequently seized by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), while a third was left stranded along the Iranian coast.

The ships were identified as the Panama-flagged MSC Francesca and the Epaminodes, with the third vessel named the Euphoria.

In a statement, the IRGC said the ships had allegedly operated without authorization, violated maritime regulations, and manipulated navigation systems while attempting to exit the strait. The group claimed the vessels’ actions posed a threat to maritime security.

The incident underscores ongoing tensions in the strategically vital waterway, despite the extension of the ceasefire.
