The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has endorsed Bola Tinubu for a second term in 2027 and adopted Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola as its consensus governorship candidate.
Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, emerged after a high-level caucus meeting held in Abeokuta, where party leaders agreed to present a united front ahead of the election. He edged out other prominent aspirants, including Iyabo Obasanjo, Gboyega Nasir Isiaka and Tunde Lemo.
The meeting was presided over by Governor Dapo Abiodun and the state party chairman, Yemi Sanusi, as part of efforts to strengthen party unity and position the APC for the 2027 elections.
Speaking after his endorsement, Adeola thanked party leaders and members, pledging to sustain progress and promote unity across the state.
“I sincerely thank all my leaders and party members for this great opportunity… I believe in oneness and the unity of our dear state,” he said.
Governor Abiodun said the decision was strategic, aimed at breaking the long-standing political gap that has prevented Ogun West from producing a governor since the state’s creation.
“Nothing will give me more joy than to break the 50-year-old jinx… and ensure Ogun West produces the next governor,” he stated.
He disclosed that extensive consultations were held with key stakeholders, including the President, before arriving at the consensus candidate.
Abiodun added that all major aspirants had agreed to support the decision, describing it as a move to consolidate the party’s dominance in the state.
Adeola, in his acceptance speech, promised inclusive governance and continuity.
“I will not let you down. I will keep the flag flying and maintain the unity, peace and progress in Ogun State,” he assured.
The endorsement signals early political alignment within the APC as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
