Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, have denied reports alleging a plan to remove the monarch, describing the claim as false and baseless.
Both leaders, through their media aides on Sunday, rejected the allegation and criticised former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose, who made the claim.
Fayose had alleged in a post on X that Makinde was planning to remove Ladoja as Olubadan and suggested the monarch could be queried for not attending a recent ceremony where High Chief Sharafadeen Ali was elevated to the status of Oba in Ibadan.
Reacting, the Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, dismissed the claim, stating that the government had neither considered nor discussed such a move. He urged Nigerians to be cautious of misinformation, particularly from politically motivated sources.
Oyelade added that political desperation often fuels the spread of false narratives capable of undermining democratic stability.
Similarly, Ladoja’s media aide, Adeola Oloko, described the allegation as mere rumour, stressing that there is no conflict between the governor and the Olubadan to justify such speculation.
He maintained that both leaders enjoy a cordial relationship and warned the public against taking the claim seriously.
