U.S.-Israel Strikes Across Iran Kill Dozens, Including Children, as Tensions Escalate

At least 34 people, including six children, have been killed following a series of large-scale airstrikes carried out by the United States and Israel across multiple regions in Iran, according to Iranian media and officials.

The attacks came after U.S. President Donald Trump issued a deadline for Tehran to fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face further strikes targeting key infrastructure, including power plants and bridges.

Iran’s Fars news agency reported that 23 people were killed in an airstrike in Baharestan County, in Tehran province. Among the victims were four girls and two boys under the age of 10.

Additional casualties were reported elsewhere. In the city of Qom, at least five people were killed in a strike on a residential building, according to Morteza Heydari, the province’s political and security deputy governor. Authorities also confirmed six deaths in Bandar-e Lengeh in southern Iran.

Strikes were reported in at least a dozen cities nationwide, including Bandar Abbas, Ahvaz, Mahshahr, Shiraz, Isfahan and Karaj, indicating the broad geographic scope of the operation.

Among the high-profile targets was Sharif University in Tehran, one of Iran’s leading scientific institutions, often compared to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. According to reports from the ground, the campus sustained significant damage, including to laboratories and a mosque within the compound.

Journalists in Tehran reported that the surrounding area was also hit, including a nearby gas facility. Civilian infrastructure—including roads, power plants and bridges—was also targeted in multiple locations.

Iran’s Ministry of Science and Technology said at least 30 universities have been struck since the start of the conflict on February 28.

Iranian First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref condemned the attack on Sharif University, accusing the United States of using a “bunker-buster” bomb.

“The attack on Sharif University is a symbol of Trump’s madness and ignorance,” Aref said in a post on social media. “He fails to understand that Iran’s knowledge is not embedded in concrete to be destroyed by bombs; the true fortress is the will of our professors and elites.”
