LeBron James made history after setting a new NBA record for the most regular-season appearances, featuring in his 1,612th game as the Los Angeles Lakers edged the Orlando Magic 105-104 in a dramatic finish.
The 41-year-old surpassed the long-standing record of 1,611 games previously held by Robert Parish since 1997.
The milestone game nearly ended in disappointment, with Orlando leading 104-102 in the final seconds, but a stunning buzzer-beating three-pointer from Luke Kennard sealed a thrilling comeback win for the Lakers.
The victory extended the Lakers’ winning streak to nine games, improving their record to 46-25 as they hold firm in third place in the Western Conference.
James contributed 12 points, six rebounds, and four assists in the historic outing, while Luka Doncic led the team with 33 points despite picking up a 16th technical foul that triggers a suspension.
Austin Reaves also impressed with 26 points on efficient shooting.
Speaking after the game, James downplayed the moment, saying his preparation remained unchanged.
“It was a regular prep day,” James said. “I know once I stepped on the floor that I was breaking the record, and that’s a pretty cool thing.
“I said the other night, the best thing you can do for your teammates is to be available, and I’ve tried to be available throughout my career, two decades plus, for my guys.”
Now in his 23rd NBA season, James continues to add to an already remarkable legacy, having also set records for most points scored and multiple other career milestones.
