President Donald Trump said U.S. military strikes have “totally demolished” significant portions of Iran’s Kharg Island, one of the country’s most critical oil export facilities, and suggested further attacks could follow.
In remarks, Trump warned that additional strikes on the facility remain possible, saying the United States could “hit it a few more times just for fun.” Kharg Island serves as a major hub for Iran’s oil exports and plays a central role in the country’s energy infrastructure.
During the interview, Trump also cast doubt on the status of Iran’s recently installed supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, questioning—without citing evidence—whether he was still alive. The president’s comments appeared to dampen expectations that the United States and Iran might soon reach a diplomatic agreement to end the ongoing conflict.
At the same time, sentiment among some Iranian opponents of the government has shifted. While some initially welcomed outside pressure on the Iranian leadership, reports indicate growing frustration and disillusionment as the conflict damages infrastructure and threatens civilian life and cultural sites across the country.
