Aminu Tambuwal, former governor of Sokoto State and current senator representing Sokoto South, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing persistent internal crises and ongoing conflicts within the party.
In a letter dated March 11 and addressed to his ward chairman in Tambuwal/Shinfiri, Tambuwal said his decision followed “deep reflection” and “extensive consultations.” He announced that he would be joining the newly registered African Democratic Congress (ADC).
“The leadership disagreements and divisions within the party at various levels have made it increasingly difficult for me to continue my active participation and commitment as a member,” the senator wrote. “The ongoing conflicts have, unfortunately, weakened the unity and direction that once defined the party.”
The former Speaker of the House of Representatives expressed gratitude to the PDP for providing him opportunities to serve Nigeria in various capacities. He explained that his move was driven by a conviction that Nigeria requires a “stronger political platform built on integrity, accountability, inclusiveness, and a clear commitment to national development.”
Tambuwal reaffirmed his dedication to the service of Nigeria and to the principles of democracy, justice, and national unity.
