In a decisive move to strengthen the state civil service, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has relieved Abdullahi Musa of his position as Head of Service with immediate effect.
Musa, whose tenure as a civil servant had officially ended in 2024, had been retained to continue overseeing the state civil service despite controversy over the extension. The governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, announced the removal on Tuesday evening, describing it as part of the administration’s ongoing efforts to reposition the civil service for improved efficiency, discipline, and service delivery across government institutions.
Governor Yusuf thanked the outgoing Head of Service for his contributions and dedication to Kano State during his tenure, stating: “We wish him the best in his future endeavours and pray for his continued success in all aspects of life.”
To ensure continuity, the governor has directed Hajiya Bilkisu Shehu Maimota, Permanent Secretary of Admin and General Services at the Cabinet Office, to serve as Acting Head of Service until a substantive appointment is made. Musa has been instructed to hand over the affairs of the office to the acting Head of Service by Wednesday, March 11, 2026.
This change marks a renewed push by Governor Yusuf’s administration to streamline the state civil service and enhance operational effectiveness.
