Tinubu: Nigeria Has Surmounted Economic Crisis

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that Nigeria has overcome the economic challenges inherited by his administration, stating that state governments are now more financially stable and no longer rely on bank loans to pay workers’ salaries.

The President made the remarks on Monday while hosting religious and traditional leaders for an interfaith breaking of the Ramadan fast at the Presidential Villa. The event was disclosed in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.

Tinubu said the country’s economic outlook has improved significantly since he assumed office and assured Nigerians that his administration would remain committed to policies that promote growth and long-term prosperity.

“I am just grateful, one person among millions, that I have been given the opportunity to serve. And all I can do is promise that I will continue to be faithful in discharging my duty. I can report that the economy has turned the corner,” he said.

“It is getting better. Pensioners are getting their relief gradually. We have saved Nigeria from bankruptcy.”

The President noted that the situation was extremely difficult when his administration took office but maintained that the government has since stabilised the country’s finances.

“It was very daunting and challenging when we took over. But today I can say with pride and joy that we have survived. No governor in this country is running around the banks to borrow money to pay the salaries of their workers,” Tinubu added.

Addressing security concerns, Tinubu assured Nigerians that the country would not yield to terrorists or forces attempting to destabilise the nation.

“Yes, we are challenged; the terrorists are very desperate now because they are getting barraged and defeated. They leave trails of blood in their wake. But I assure you of one thing: Nigeria will never surrender. We are not discouraged. We are going to win and win well,” he said.

The President also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening critical sectors such as agriculture and education, which he described as key to building a more prosperous future for the country.

Speaking at the event, Yahaya Abubakar thanked the President for bringing together leaders of the two major religions during the Ramadan gathering, describing the occasion as a symbol of national unity.

Abubakar, who represented the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and the Sa’ad Abubakar, prayed for peace, unity, and divine guidance for the country and its leadership.

Leaders of the Christian Association of Nigeria, including Daniel Okoh and Stephen Baba-Panya, also attended the event and pledged the church’s support for the administration’s efforts to transform the economy and strengthen national security.

Traditional rulers and religious leaders from the six geopolitical zones of Nigeria were present at the gathering.
