The Chief of Army Staff, Waidi Shaibu, has reassured Nigerians that troops under the Operation HADIN KAI are firmly managing the security situation in the North-East while intensifying operations against insurgent groups.
Shaibu gave the assurance on Saturday in Maiduguri after a closed-door operational meeting with the Theatre Commander of the operation, Abdulsalam Abubakar, and other senior military officers at the Maimalari Cantonment.
The one-day visit formed part of the army chief’s operational assessment following renewed attacks on military formations and civilian communities in parts of Borno State and the wider North-East region by insurgent groups including Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province.
According to Shaibu, commanders on the ground presented detailed updates on ongoing military operations, achievements recorded so far and urgent operational needs of troops fighting on the frontline.
“I am here on a routine operational visit. The meeting has given me the opportunity to hear directly from troops on the frontline about their challenges and requirements so that they can be addressed promptly,” he said.
He reiterated that the Nigerian Army remains committed to intensifying operations aimed at eliminating the remaining insurgent fighters operating in the region.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Abdulkarim Lawan, extended condolences to families of victims killed in recent attacks across several communities in the state.
The affected areas include Ngoshe, Konduga, Mainok, Jakana and Marte, where insurgents reportedly launched a series of attacks.
Reports indicate that both civilians and soldiers were killed during the assaults, while more than 300 residents—mostly women and children—were abducted in Ngoshe, a community in Gwoza Local Government Area.
