2027: No Opposition for APC in Plateau — Gov. Mutfwang

Governor Caleb Mutfwang has expressed confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will encounter no opposition in Plateau State ahead of the 2027 general election.

Mutfwang, who officially joined the APC from the Peoples Democratic Party on January 2, 2026, spoke on Tuesday in Jos following the emergence of Rufus Bature as the state APC chairman. He noted that Bature and other members of the party’s executive committee were elected through a consensus arrangement.

“By the grace of God, in 2027, we will only contest this election among ourselves. There will be no opposition in Plateau,” Mutfwang said, attributing the party’s confidence to continued support from residents who trust the APC’s programmes and leadership.

The governor urged party members to embrace unity, tolerance, and reconciliation, describing the APC as a family whose internal disagreements should not undermine its collective vision. He also announced a one-month statewide membership drive to strengthen grassroots presence and encouraged members to support the party’s electronic registration initiative.

“As evangelists of the party, I charge you to go to every nook and cranny of the state and persuade more people to join us,” he added, emphasising that strong structures and active mobilisation are essential for electoral success.

In his acceptance speech, Bature thanked party leaders and delegates for their confidence, describing his re-election as both an honour and a responsibility. He pledged to work diligently to meet members’ expectations, highlighting the party’s previous electoral successes, including the election of three senators, 23 members of the Plateau State House of Assembly, eight members of the House of Representatives, 17 local government chairmen, and 325 councillors.

Governor Mutfwang continues to advocate for unity and strengthened grassroots mobilisation to consolidate the APC’s dominance in Plateau State ahead of the 2027 polls.
