The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, will on Wednesday, 25 February 2026, swear in Joseph Olubunmi Kayode Oyewole as a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
The ceremony is scheduled to take place at 2 p.m. in Courtroom Two of the Supreme Court Complex, Abuja.
The development follows the recent depletion of the apex court’s bench due to the retirement of some justices upon reaching the mandatory retirement age.
Prior to his elevation, Justice Oyewole served as a Justice of the Court of Appeal and Presiding Justice of its Enugu Division. His appointment is seen as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the judiciary with experienced and dedicated jurists.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the Director of Information and Public Relations of the Supreme Court, Dr. Festus Akande, the court said Justice Oyewole would bring a wealth of legal expertise and integrity to the apex bench.
According to the statement, the swearing-in marks another step toward rejuvenating the judiciary and reinforcing the delivery of justice in line with the highest standards of competence, impartiality, and integrity.
Akande urged invited guests to adhere strictly to court protocols and security measures, reiterating that the Supreme Court remains committed to justice, fairness, and judicial independence for the benefit of all Nigerians.
