The Kano State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has accused the state government of targeting its members in what it described as a political witch-hunt.
In a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Engr. Ibrahim Karaye, the party alleged that recent actions by the government were undemocratic and unjustified.
The NNPP claimed that the state government, which it said was originally formed on the party’s platform before parting ways with it, had begun withdrawing Hajj seats earlier allocated to some of its members. Those reportedly affected include former commissioners, advisers, and party leaders.
According to Karaye, the individuals concerned, as citizens of Kano State, are entitled to such privileges and should not be singled out on political grounds.
The party also alleged that former political office holders were being harassed and pressured to return official vehicles assigned to them during their tenure. It described the vehicles as part of their consolidated benefits while in service.
The NNPP urged the Kano State Government to refrain from actions it said could undermine democratic norms, stressing that politics should be conducted with decorum and mutual respect.
It further called on authorities to uphold the constitutional right to freedom of association, warning that political offices are temporary and should not be used to settle partisan scores.
