President Donald Trump on Sunday sharply criticized Bad Bunny’s halftime performance at Super Bowl LX, calling it “absolutely terrible” and “one of the worst” shows in the event’s history.
In a social media post, Trump described the performance as a “slap in the face” to the country, saying it lacked inspiration and failed to meet what he called America’s standards of “success, creativity, or excellence.” He also complained that much of the performance was in Spanish and criticized the choreography, arguing it was inappropriate for young viewers.
Bad Bunny, a Grammy-winning Puerto Rican artist, has drawn conservative criticism since being announced as the halftime headliner last year. His show at Levi Stadium leaned heavily into Puerto Rican and broader Caribbean culture, featuring a predominantly Spanish-language set.
The performance included visual tributes spanning the Americas, beginning in South America and ending with Puerto Rico, Bad Bunny’s birthplace. Early in the show, he reflected on his journey to the Super Bowl stage, telling viewers in Spanish that his success came from never stopping believing in himself — and urging others to do the same.
Set pieces evoked sugar cane fields common across the Caribbean, and he paused at a traditional shaved ice stand, known as a piragua. Bad Bunny went on to perform a series of his hit songs, blending cultural imagery with music that has propelled him to global stardom, even as the show sparked polarized reactions online.
