Manchester City secured a dramatic 3-1 victory over Liverpool on Sunday, cutting Arsenal’s lead at the top of the Premier League to six points with 13 games remaining. The win, City’s first away triumph at Liverpool in front of a crowd since 2003, keeps their title hopes alive and adds pressure on Arsenal as they chase a first league crown in 22 years.
Liverpool initially took the lead through Dominik Szoboszlai’s superb free-kick, but City responded late in the game. Bernardo Silva equalised in the 84th minute, before Erling Haaland converted a stoppage-time penalty after Matheus Nunes was fouled in the box by Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson. The strike marked Haaland’s 21st Premier League goal of the season.
City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma also made a crucial save to deny Alexis Mac Allister, while Rayan Cherki’s long-range effort from inside his own half was ruled out after Alisson had joined the attack, leaving the score at 2-1.
The result not only strengthens City’s challenge for the league title but also dents Liverpool’s hopes of securing Champions League football next season, while Manchester City and Arsenal are set to face each other next month at Wembley in the Carabao Cup final.
