Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has declared Tuesday, February 3, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the creation of Ogun State.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Monday by the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbo Talabi, who said the holiday would allow residents to fully participate in activities lined up for the state’s Golden Jubilee celebrations.
Talabi explained that the anniversary marks five decades of Ogun State’s political existence, steady growth, and contributions to national development since its creation on February 3, 1976.
He urged residents of the state, popularly known as the Gateway State, to commemorate the milestone in an atmosphere of unity and peace, while reaffirming the government’s commitment to consolidating past achievements and accelerating development across the state.
According to the statement, the governor also encouraged citizens to take advantage of the public holiday to actively participate in the series of events marking the Golden Jubilee.
The Golden Jubilee celebrations are expected to feature various commemorative activities aimed at reflecting on the state’s history, celebrating its progress, and projecting its development aspirations for the future.
