The All Progressives Congress (APC) national chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, has declared that in the 2027 political cycle, only members of the party will be considered for political appointments.
Speaking in Abuja during the “Renewed Hope, Promise Kept 2027” meet-and-greet for north-west youth mobilisation, organised by Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, Yilwatda emphasised that while party members would be encouraged to occupy political positions, technocrats should serve only as consultants.
“In 2027, as the party chairman, I will stand strong to defend the position that if you are not prepared to join us, you should not be given appointments,” Yilwatda stated.
He added, “We encourage and support the members of the political party to be in a position. If you are a technocrat, go and be a consultant but not take political appointments and not go back to support the party that brought you to power. If all of the appointees decided to become technocrats, the party will never return back to power. So, there is nothing like technocrats. As the party chairman, I stand with the position that they are political appointees of our party, the APC.”
Yilwatda also noted that the north-west geopolitical zone currently has the highest number of registered members in the party’s ongoing electronic membership registration exercise.
His remarks signal a firm party policy that could influence the reappointment of non-APC members, including prominent figures from other parties, in key government positions ahead of the 2027 elections.
