Court Adjourns Sowore’s Arraignment to October 27

The Federal High Court in Abuja has shifted the arraignment of politician and Sahara Reporters publisher, Omoyele Sowore, to October 27, 2025. Sowore faces a five-count charge over an alleged false claim against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) is standing trial alongside two co-defendants X Incorp (formerly Twitter) and Meta (Facebook) Incorp.

At Monday’s proceedings, prosecution counsel Mohammed Abubakar urged the court to take the defendants’ plea. However, Sowore’s lawyer, Marshall Abubakar, objected, arguing that his client had not been personally served with the charge and that X Incorp was unrepresented in court.

Justice Mohammed Umar confirmed that while X and Meta had been served electronically via email, Sowore had not been served personally. The judge then granted the prosecution’s request to serve him in court during the sitting.

Following service, Sowore’s counsel prayed for an adjournment to allow his client prepare adequately for defence, citing Section 282(6) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015.

Justice Umar granted the application and adjourned the case to October 27 for Sowore’s formal arraignment.
