Hilda Baci Breaks Guinness World Record with Largest Jollof Serving

Celebrity chef Hilda Baci has set another Guinness World Record after preparing the largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice, weighing an astonishing 8,780 kilograms (19,356 lb 9 oz).

The feat, achieved in partnership with Gino Nigeria, was officially confirmed on Friday, September 12, 2025, during a vibrant event at Victoria Island, Lagos. Thousands of spectators turned up for the celebration, which featured music performances and appearances by Ogun State First Lady Bamidele Abiodun and actress Funke Akindele.

“New Record: Largest serving of Nigerian-style jollof rice – 8,780 kg (19,356 lb 9 oz) achieved by Hilda Baci and Gino in Victoria Island, Lagos, Nigeria,” Guinness World Records announced.

Baci, born Hilda Bassey, said it took “nine hours of fire, passion and teamwork” to cook the record-breaking dish, which produced 16,600 plates of rice “served with joy, love and community.”

To meet Guinness guidelines and avoid waste, her team carefully measured out 4,000 kg of basmati rice, 164 kg of goat meat, 220 kg of Gino Asun & peppered chicken cubes, and 600 kg of her signature jollof pepper mix. The preparation also required 1,200 kg of gas and a custom-built 22,619-liter pot.

Excitement peaked as attendees broke into chants of “Hilda, we want jollof,” with videos of the historic moment flooding social media.

The achievement, which reignites the long-standing “Jollof Wars” between Nigeria and Ghana, further cements Baci’s reputation as one of Africa’s most celebrated chefs and cultural icons.
