President Bola Tinubu will on Thursday at 5 p.m. preside over a special session of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.
The commemorative session, to be held at the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja, is part of a national programme of tributes celebrating Buhari’s legacy, according to presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga.
Earlier on Thursday, a third-day prayer will be held at Buhari’s residence in Daura, Katsina State, in line with Islamic tradition. Vice-President Kashim Shettima is expected to lead a delegation of cabinet ministers to the Daura prayer session, as confirmed by Rabiu Ibrahim, media aide to Minister of Information Mohammed Idris.
The special FEC session in Abuja will feature tributes from top government officials, including leaders of the National Assembly, members of the judiciary, and representatives of Buhari’s family.
Additional memorial events include:
· A special prayer at the National Mosque in Abuja on Friday, July 18
· A church service on Sunday, July 20
The FEC tribute session was originally scheduled earlier in the week but was postponed to avoid clashing with the state funeral held for Buhari on Tuesday, July 14, in Daura.
