Trump Says Israel Agrees to 60-Day Gaza Ceasefire Plan, Urges Hamas to Accept Terms

U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Monday that Israel has agreed to the terms of a proposed 60-day ceasefire in Gaza and called on Hamas to accept the deal, which is currently being relayed through mediators in Qatar and Egypt.

“This mission will not get better — it will only get worse,” Trump warned in a post on Truth Social, ahead of his upcoming meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington.

Israel’s ambassador to the United Nations, Danny Danon, confirmed the country’s readiness to move forward with a truce, but cautioned that military operations would resume if Hamas declined the offer. Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer has also been in Washington for high-level discussions aimed at finalizing the plan.

The proposed agreement includes a temporary cessation of hostilities, a phased exchange of hostages and prisoners, and expanded access for humanitarian aid. However, key obstacles remain — most notably, Hamas’ demand for a permanent ceasefire and full Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, conditions Israel firmly rejects.

Despite the diplomatic push, Israeli airstrikes have continued across Gaza. According to local health authorities, more than 56,000 Palestinians have been killed since the war erupted in October 2023.

This latest proposal comes on the heels of a failed truce initiative in January and has drawn criticism from humanitarian groups, who have raised alarms over the mounting civilian toll and the role of the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, a new entity managing aid distribution amid ongoing conflict.
