Ozigbo Predicts Labour Party’s End Amid Growing Defections

Valentine Ozigbo, a prominent supporter of Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has predicted a mass exodus from the party, stating that LP is nearing its end.

In an interview on Arise TV, Ozigbo, who recently defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), claimed that the LP is no longer the force it once appeared to be. He revealed that many LP officials have confided in him about plans to leave the party.

“LP is not exactly what people think they are seeing. I have made my case. Unfortunately, LP is almost in its dying days, and over time people are going to see it,” Ozigbo said.

He further stated that nearly every elected member of the LP he has spoken to does not plan to run for re-election under the same platform, signaling a significant shift within the party.

For Ozigbo, joining the APC is not about defending the ruling party’s actions but about serving as a “catalyst for change.” “I’m here as a catalyst for change,” he explained. “The Labour Party for me is in the past.”

Ozigbo also criticized Governor Chukwuma Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), accusing him of wavering between APGA and APC, which he believes causes confusion. He referenced rumors suggesting that President Bola Tinubu may back Soludo’s re-election bid due to his opposition to Peter Obi’s presidential ambitions.

“If you want to be a man, be a man. If you want to be a woman, be a woman,” Ozigbo said, addressing Soludo’s political flexibility. “If Soludo wants to be APGA, be APGA. Be proud of your APGA.”

In February, Ozigbo resigned from LP and joined APC to contest for the Anambra governorship ticket. However, he lost to Nicholas Ukachukwu and later filed a lawsuit against the APC over alleged irregularities in the primary election.
