Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has condemned the recent increase in fuel prices and called on the Federal Government to reverse the hike. The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) raised the price of petrol from ₦897 to ₦1,030 per litre, marking the second increase within a month.

In a post on X, Obi described the hike as “unfortunate and insensitive,” criticizing the government’s lack of explanation and urging President Bola Tinubu, who also serves as Minister of Petroleum, to offer alternative solutions. He emphasized that the policy lacks sound economic principles and compassion, stressing that Nigerians are enduring unnecessary hardship.

Obi questioned the roles of the NNPCL and regulatory bodies under the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, calling for urgent action to reverse the price hike before further damage to the economy and people’s well-being.
