Governor Uzodinma Urges Nigerians to Foster Unity and Hope Amid Challenges

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, has urged Nigerians to demonstrate patriotism by promoting peace and unity for the nation’s continued progress. Speaking during an Independence Day Church Service at Maria Assumpta Cathedral in Owerri, Uzodinma highlighted that Nigeria has many reasons to be thankful to God for the 64 years since gaining independence. He expressed optimism about the country’s future, despite its challenges.

Governor Uzodinma emphasized that Nigeria’s story is not one of defeat, but of hope, grounded in faith in God. He called for collective prayers for the country and its leaders, noting that Nigeria has experienced relative peace, unity, and progress compared to nations dealing with full-scale war.

Reflecting on recent challenges, including severe flooding, Uzodinma said that with God’s help, Nigerians can overcome these obstacles. He listed three key reasons for gratitude: Nigeria’s progress after 64 years, the unity of its citizens, and the relative peace that has prevailed despite difficulties.

The Governor encouraged a shift from a mindset of lamentation to one of celebration, asserting that unity and faith will help Nigeria reach its full potential. He also commended the Church for its role in promoting peace and development and urged Church leaders to continue praying for the country. In response to a request from Archbishop Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, delivered through Fr. Gerald Njoku, regarding the payment of pensioners’ gratuities, Uzodinma assured that payments would continue, while urging individuals involved in fraudulent activities to refrain from obstructing the verification process.

Earlier, Archbishop Ugorji acknowledged God’s role in keeping Nigeria united despite its challenges. He praised Governor Uzodinma for maintaining peace, addressing insecurity, creating jobs, and improving infrastructure in the state, while also requesting the completion of the flyover project at the Assumpta roundabout and continued payment of gratuities to pensioners.
