Wike Warns Fubara: “No One Has a Monopoly on Violence’ Amid Political Rift”

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has issued a stark warning, asserting that “nobody has the monopoly of causing violence” as he navigates a political dispute with Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Wike made these remarks at a reception hosted by the Rivers State Ijaw Peoples Congress in Port Harcourt, as reported by Channels TV. In addressing the notion that Governor Fubara represents the entire Ijaw community, Wike challenged this perspective, asserting that his own political contributions, particularly in facilitating an Ijaw man’s governorship in Rivers State, overshadow those of his critics.

“Those claiming the Ijaw people are fighting me, ask them—who has Fubara made?” Wike questioned, dismissing his opponents as envious of his success and highlighting his consistent political victories over them. Emphasizing his achievements, Wike stated, “I have made an Ijaw man governor of Rivers State. God used us. All of us here had sleepless nights. So, who loves Ijaw more?”

He concluded his statements with a caution to his adversaries, affirming his commitment to the rule of law and peace, but reminding them that this should not be misconstrued as weakness: “We choose to play according to the rule of law… but nobody should mistake that for weakness.”
