Don’t Bring Fire On Oyo State, Makinde Begs Wike

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has called on Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to avoid creating political instability in Oyo State. This follows Wike’s recent warning to cause political unrest in states led by People’s Democratic Party (PDP) governors who support Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Governor Makinde made his appeal during the Ijaw World Congress reception in Port Harcourt on Saturday, which was held in Wike’s honor. He said, “I traveled from Oyo to support my brother, Nyesom Wike. I brought a peace offering because he’s been saying he’ll cause fire in some states. I asked him, please, don’t bring that fire to Oyo State.”

Makinde’s comments followed Wike’s earlier threats to take action against PDP governors backing Fubara’s administration. Despite this tension, Governor Makinde also praised Wike for his accomplishments during his tenure as Rivers State governor, particularly in infrastructure development. “On behalf of my fellow governors and former leaders present, I want to acknowledge your impressive work. Since arriving in Rivers, I’ve witnessed the impactful projects completed during your time in office,” Makinde added.
