FEC Approves 40 Homes for Judges in Abuja, Boosts Road Projects

The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has approved the construction of 40 residential houses for judges in Abuja, according to Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Speaking after a FEC meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu, Wike explained that the residences, to be located in the Kantampe district, will accommodate 20 judges from the FCT high court, 10 from the federal high court, and 10 from the court of appeal. The project is set to be completed within 15 months.

Wike emphasized the president’s commitment to ensuring better living conditions for judicial officials, stating that judges living in rented houses and hotels are unsafe and inconvenienced. In addition to the housing project, the FEC has also approved the construction of access roads to the judges’ quarters, with completion expected by December.

Meanwhile, Dave Umahi, the minister of works, announced the approval of N740 billion for the Abuja-Kano road project, handled by Julius Berger. Initially valued at N155 billion, the project’s cost was increased to N1.5 trillion after multiple revisions. Other key road projects approved include the rehabilitation of the Maraban-Kankara/Funtua road in Katsina, the construction of the Sokoto/Badagry Super-highway in Kebbi State, and the dualisation of the Afikpo-Uturu-Okigwe road spanning Ebonyi, Abia, and Imo States.
