Edo 2024: Tinubu Congratulates Okpebholo on Victory, Commends INEC and Voters

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, for his victory in the Edo State governorship election held on Saturday.

In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Tinubu remarked that Okpebholo’s win signifies broad support for the APC’s progressive agenda and economic reforms. He emphasized that the election outcome reflects the people’s endorsement of the party’s ideals.

President Tinubu praised the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for conducting a transparent election, encouraging those unhappy with the result to seek legal recourse. “INEC has again proven its dedication to organizing free and fair elections,” he said.

Tinubu urged Okpebholo to remain humble in victory and to extend a hand of cooperation to his political opponents, stressing the need for unity in advancing Edo State’s development.

The President also commended the other candidates for contributing to Nigeria’s democratic progress and applauded the people of Edo for their peaceful conduct during the election. He highlighted the growth of Nigeria’s democracy, now 25 years into continuous practice, and credited security agencies and INEC for ensuring a largely smooth and secure election process.
