The Yoruba Youth Council (YYC) has urged the Zamfara State House of Assembly to impeach Governor Dauda Lawal over alleged mismanagement of the state’s deteriorating security situation. The group also called on the governor to stop his attacks on Minister of State for Defence and former governor, Alhaji Bello Matawalle.
YYC President, Comrade Eric Oluwole, expressed disappointment over Governor Lawal’s unwillingness to cooperate with the Ministry of Defence and the military in tackling banditry. Oluwole accused Lawal of exacerbating the security crisis by failing to support federal authorities.
“It is both appalling and unacceptable that instead of working with the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces to eliminate banditry, the governor appears to be fueling the violence,” Oluwole remarked. He added that despite Governor Lawal’s criticisms of Matawalle, the former governor had offered cooperation, which was rebuffed.
The YYC praised the military’s recent successes in fighting banditry in northern Nigeria, including the elimination of notorious bandit Halilu Sububu and the capture of kingpin Bashir Hadejia. The group warned Governor Lawal not to undermine the ongoing efforts to restore peace in Zamfara State.
