Nigerian Military Chiefs Deployed to Sokoto to Tackle Banditry and Terrorism

The Nigerian government directed Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, and other top military officials to relocate to Sokoto State. This directive is part of an intensified effort to combat banditry, kidnapping, and terrorism in the Northwest region.

Henshaw Ogubike, the Ministry of Defence’s Director of Information and Public Relations, announced the move, highlighting the government’s concern over the persistent threats posed by these criminal activities. The aim is to restore peace and stability to the region.

While in the Northwest, Matawalle and the military chiefs will lead operations against notorious criminals, such as Bello Turji and his gang. Matawalle emphasized that the military is fully committed to eliminating these threats.

Ogubike mentioned a recent incident in Kwashabawa, Zamfara, where bandits celebrated after encountering a stranded Nigerian military vehicle. He condemned such actions, emphasizing the government’s resolve to utilize all available resources to bring these criminals to justice.

Matawalle, expressing his commitment, stated, “I will be on the ground with our top military leaders, leading our courageous troops.” He urged local residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security forces, assuring them of the government’s commitment to their safety and well-being.
