IGP Egbetokun Orders Manhunt for Abuja Shi’ite Attackers, 97 Arrested

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has initiated a manhunt for the individuals responsible for attacking police officers in Abuja, believed to be members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN).
The violent incident occurred on Sunday, August 25, in the Wuse area, resulting in the deaths of two police officers and injuries to several others.
IGP Egbetokun strongly condemned the attack, reaffirming his commitment to upholding law and order and pledging to ensure those responsible are brought to justice. He described the killing of police officers on duty as “highly outrageous and unacceptable,” stating that the attackers have “murdered peace.”
Following the attack, Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, announced that police have arrested 97 suspects and recovered various weapons used in the assault. The Nigeria Police Force is conducting a thorough investigation to prevent future incidents of this nature. IGP Egbetokun offered condolences to the families of the deceased officers and expressed wishes for a speedy recovery for those injured, who are currently receiving medical care.
The attack took place at a police checkpoint at Wuse Junction, where the assailants, armed with machetes, improvised explosive devices, and knives, launched a vicious assault, resulting in two fatalities, three injuries, and three police patrol vehicles being set on fire.
The Nigeria Police Force is seeking public cooperation and understanding as it continues efforts to combat extremist threats and violent crimes throughout the country.
